Amcorp Group Berhad (“Amcorp”), together with The Singing Shop recently hosted a Buka Puasa Dinner for the children and caretakers of an orphanage, Rumah Tunas Harapan Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Kuala Selangor (“RTH”).
The Buka Puasa dinner was held on 19th August 2011 at The Singing Shop in Amcorp Mall, Petaling Jaya and was attended by Amcorp’s Chairman, Yg. Bhg Tan Sri Dato’ Azman Hashim and his wife YM Tunku Puan Sri Arishah Bt Tunku Maamor together with 40 children and 8 caretakers from the orphanage.
RTH was first established in 1988 and is the first orphanage in Malaysia to adopt the “Family Structure” system to run the orphanage, whereby the children are placed in “Family” units and cared for by a pair of husband and wife administrators.
RTH is governed by the Ministry of Welfare and houses children between the ages of 2 till 18 that are either orphaned, from the hard-core poor, abused or even abandoned. RTH is funded by both the Government and Private sectors.
The evening started with a treat of song and dance for the children and their caretakers at the concourse area of Amcorp Mall. After numerous renditions of Raya songs and delightful entertainment, the children were then escorted to join the rest of the guests at The Singing Shop. There were obvious excitement and eagerness on the faces of these children when they saw the lavish dinner spread at the buffet table.
Just before Maghrib, Ustaz Mohd Yadi Bin Tohor from RTH recited the Doa. This was followed by the welcoming speech by Amcorp’s En. Azlan Baqee Bin Abdullah.
Finally, the moment that was eagerly awaited by the children and guests alike arrived. It was “Buka Puasa” time. The children were quickly lined up by their caretakers and without much delay, were already into the delectable cuisine of satay, chicken curry, prawns, fried squids, mutton and vegetables. It was truly delightful to see how the children enjoyed their food.
After a most satisfying dinner, the children and guests were invited to attend the Tahlil and Isyak prayers at The Singing Shop. After that, the children were treated to yet another favorite for all children: McDonalds ice cream. It was a nice coffee or tea break for the rest of the guests whilst both guests and children mingled happily together.
Next, was a recital of the Quran by Mohd Zairul Hafizad Bin Abdullah, who is from RTH and also the Runners Up to the National Quran Recital Competition 2011 (Age 15 and above category) organized by the Institute Kebajikan Masyarakat Malaysia.
This was followed by The Singing Shop’s rendition of a medley of Hari Raya songs. The music was catchy and the children were seen happily clapping along with the rest of the crowd.
Our honored guest, Puan Shazrina Azman, the very popular “Mizz Nina” took to the stage and gave out the Hari Raya gift hampers and Duit Raya to the caretakers and children of RTH.
All good things must come to an end and the evening ended with the distribution of cute little goodies bags to the children. You can feel the joy and warmth of the children as they were slowly ushered away.
As we know, the Ramadhan month teaches us about forgiveness, caring and sharing and indeed that was what the “Buka Puasa” dinner at Amcorp Mall that night was all about. Let’s not forget our other sponsors too for their donation and gifts which helped made that evening such a success.
