Overview
AmcorpGroup Berhad ("Amcorp")
is an investment holding company which was privatised
and delisted from Bursa Malaysia in December 2006. Its
subsidiaries and associated companies are principally
involved in the provision of financial services, property
development and construction, and information technology.
Amcorp's financial services are mainly undertaken through
its associated company, AMMB
Holdings Berhad ("AHB") Group. Amcorp is the largest
shareholder of the AHB Group, which is the fifth largest
domestic integrated financial services group in Malaysia,
in terms of assets. Amcorp's property services are undertaken
by its subsidiaries, namely, Melawangi Sdn Bhd, Amcorp
Prima Realty Sdn Bhd, Distrepark Sdn Bhd and DCP Industries
Sdn Bhd. In addition, its associated company, AMDB
Berhad ("AMDB"), is also involved in property
development. Amcorp's information technology services
are undertaken by its subsidiary, MCM
Technologies Berhad ("MCMT"), a company listed on
the MESDAQ of Bursa Malaysia.
History
Amcorp was incorporated in
Malaysia on 26 April 1910 under the Companies Ordinance
1889 as a limited company under the name of The Temerloh
Rubber Estate Limited. It changed its name to The Temerloh
Rubber Estate Berhad on 15 April 1966. On 19 May 1992,
it changed its name to Arab-Malaysian Corporation Berhad.
Amcorp adopted its present name on 10 October 2005.
Amcorp, under the name of The Temerloh Rubber Estate
Limited, was listed on Bursa Malaysia on 22 March 1961.
In December 2006, Amcorp was privatised and delisted
from Bursa Malaysia.
Amcorp originally commenced business in 1910 with the
cultivation of rubber and diversified into oil palm
cultivation in 1963. In May 1992, Amcorp disposed of
a substantial portion of its plantation activities.
In June 1992, Amcorp acquired its first stake of 40.1
per cent. equity interest in AHB and 30.0 per cent.
equity interest in AMDB.
